1966-1967: Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Sheffield
1967-1986: Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Reader, University of Southampton
1986-2005: Professor of Biochemistry , University of Southampton

Present post: Emeritus Professor in School of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Health and Biological Sciences.

Research interests: The biochemistry of methylotrophs. Active transport of amino acids and ammonia in Aspergillus. Respiratory protection in nitrogen fixation. Bacterial energy transduction. PQQ and quinoproteins. Cytochrome structure and function.
