| Mahabalipuram, now called Mammalapuram is about 50 km from Chennai on the East Coast Road. It is famous for its shore temple and stone carvings. I go there always direct from Chennai airport and stay at the Golden Sun hotel for a few days before going to Tirupati. The hotel is on the beach about 3 km from centre of Mahabalipuram. It is excellent and not expensive. It attracts more European visitors after the tsunami - come to see how their their money was spent. |
